Unite

This is the first song I wrote that the lyrics aren’t a story.  This is my first basic “worship” song I guess you could say.  This song came to me about a year ago when I was driving the 45 minutes from my mom’s house to my dad’s house.  It’s called Unite:

Unite in Jesus, my Lord, For He is the way for the people of the world To get to Heaven To get to Heaven.

Unite in Jesus, my King.  ‘Cause He is the truth for the people of the world To be set free, Oooo, Set free from sin.

Unite in Jesus, unite, For He is the way, the truth, and the life.  He will accept you the way that you are.  No matter how close or how far, Just unite.

Unite in Jesus, my Friend, For He is the life for the people of the world, So that they will live, Live for eternity.

Unite in Jesus, unite, For He is the way, the truth, and the life.  He will accept you the way that you are.  No matter how close or how far, Just unite.

Unity is the key to the body of Christ.  We’re called to accept each other and put up a fight Against the devil, So unite!

Unite in Jesus, unite, For He is the way, the truth, and the life.  He will accept you the way that you are.  No matter how close or how far, Just unite.

Unite in Jesus, unite, For He is the way, the truth, and the life.  He will accept you the way that you are.  No matter how close or how far, Just unite.

The body doesn’t work unless all of its parts have unity between each of them.  This is also true for the body of Christ.  If we don’t come together as one, than we won’t be able to tell the world about Him the way we are supposed to.

Dear Lord, please help us learn to unite our differences into one to glorify you in everything that we do.

Draw Near To Me

This is the first song that I wrote.  It was written around September 2008, but I’m not quite sure of the actually date.  Here is “Draw Near to Me”:

I was headed to the river, To have a drink of eternal life.  When I heard a voice that Said, “This will be the time of your life.”  I was so surprised, But, at the same time I was relieved.  ‘Cause I had heard my God Who had said to me,

“Draw near to Me, For I will never leave you.  Draw near to Me, ‘Cause I’ll keep you safe.  And draw near to Me, I will not forsake you.  So draw near to Me, For you are My child.”

I was telling my friends about How Jesus had saved my life.  And then I told them That He had saved theirs too.  So I read them the Bible, And then we all began to pray.  In one voice we said,

“Draw near to me, ‘Cause I don’t want to be left here.  Draw near to me, ‘Cause I want to be safe.  And please forgive me, ‘Cause I know that I have done wrong.  So draw near to me, For I am Your child.”

I got the joy of watching my friends Give their lives to Christ.  It is as easy as your ABC’s, So just listen to what He said.  ‘Cause He said,

“Draw near to Me, For I will never leave you.  Draw near to Me, ‘Cause I’ll keep you safe.  And draw near to Me, I will not forsake you.  So draw near to Me, For you are My child.”

“Draw near to me, ‘Cause I don’t want to be left here.  Draw near to me, ‘Cause I want to be safe.  And please forgive me, ‘Cause I know that I have done wrong.  So draw near to me, For I am Your child.  Draw near to me, Jesus, Please draw near to me, For I am Your child.”

Thank you Father for keeping me safe and drawing me into Your loving arms.  Love, Your Child.

Waiting For My Shepherd

Posted in Songs & Lyrics on February 14, 2010 by jwmoore5

Last winter, late November-early December 2008 I do believe, I was at 707, a large group function for Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship.  Pastor Brian Hargett was talking about the parable of the lost sheep.  He mentioned that in that time period, a sheep was carried on the shoulders of the shepherd.  While I was sitting there listening to his message, this song started going through my head.  I wrote it down, titled it “Waiting For My Shepherd”, and here is how it turned out:

I thought that I could make it in this life all by myself.  I’m lost and all alone in this barren wilderness.  I cannot seem to hear Your voice calling out my name.  I’m lost, but Lord I want to be found!

Shepherd won’t you come, And place me on Your shoulders, And carry me home.  I want to be with You.  Lost and all alone, Waiting for my Shepherd.  In the wilderness, Lord, I wait for You.

I’ve been wandering around this desert many times.  I cannot find my way back to the ninety-nine.  And I cannot seem to hear Your voice calling out my name.  I’m lost, but Lord I want to be found.

Shepherd won’t you come, And place me on Your shoulders, And carry me home.  I want to be with You.  Lost and all alone, Waiting for my Shepherd.  In the wilderness, Lord, I wait for You.

I finally found my way back to my Shepherd.  He left the ninety-nine, To come find me.  I didn’t think that I was that important, But to my Shepherd I am.  And He came!

Shepherd You have come, And placed me on Your shoulders, And you’re carrying me home.  I’m glad that I’m with You.  I was lost but now I’m found, Found by my Shepherd.  In the wilderness, Lord, I am with You.

Shepherd You have come, And placed me on Your shoulders, And you’re carrying me home.  I’m glad that I’m with You.  I was lost but now I’m found, Found by my Shepherd.  In the grassy plains, Lord, I’m home with you.

Thank you God for Rescuing and Restoring me!

What is Love?: A Valentine’s Day Topic Worth Hitting

Posted in In The Beginning on February 14, 2010 by jwmoore5

Valentine’s Day, in my opinion, is just a Hallmark holiday that dis-empowers the true meaning of love.  Love is more than just a four-letter word.  Love is also more than a three-word phrase.  It is also more than the topic for many songs, poems, stories, etc. in this day in age.

Love is simply an adoration, a passion of warmth and affection from God to us.

Roman 8:38-39 states, “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to seperate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NKJV).

God’s love is inseparable, unbreakable, everlasting, all-powerful.  His love will NEVER fail.

So why do we say we love something, but we don’t mean this love that is unbreakable?  Humans have a tendency to use words without knowing the proper meaning.  Love is a term that shouldn’t be used loosely.  Furthermore, love is more than just a word, but it is also includes the actions on which someone shows to another.  Is giving a dozen roses and a box of chocolates love?  Or is feeding the hungry, giving money to the poor, housing the homeless, and quenching the thirsty a sign of true love?

I challenge you, especially on Valentine’s Day, to go out into the world and truly love someone.  It could be anything from a smile and a conversation to feeding the hungry.  But what ever you do, let God work through you.  Show the world God’s unbreakable love today!!

With Love Through Christ,

Joseph
